(Waltham,
MA -- June 11, 2001 6:30 a.m. EDT)
Advanced Visual Systems,
Inc. today announced that Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) has
adopted a custom software tool based on the company's AVS/Express
development system for all of its Italian regional districts.
The software
was developed by AVS's Italian Professional Services team
in cooperation with Telecom Italia LAB (TILAB), the research
center of Telecom Italia Group. Called GUARDIAN, the software
helps telecom engineers analyze the intensity of electromagnetic
fields radiated by Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) to determine
compliance with Italy's established limits on electromagnetic
pollution. GUARDIAN (Graphical User Application for the RaDiation
Intensity in Antenna Neighborhoods) has a graphical user interface
designed using AVS/Express. With this tool, engineers can
easily view existing data and also test future scenarios for
compliance.
TIM, one
of Europe's largest mobile-phone service companies, provides
BTS position data and electrical parameters as well as data
on building positions and dimensions in the neighborhoods
surrounding the BTS. GUARDIAN extends this data by allowing
the user to create 3D representations of possible new urban
areas and alter characteristics such as antenna position and
the number of channels in the BTS system. The user can easily
import standard image formats such as TIF and JPG to use as
the basis for constructing a new area within the simulation.
"AVS/Express
turned our state-of-the-art computational kernel into a fully
featured application. Guardian 2.2 has become the best instrument
to analyze the radiobase station conformity to the limits
fixed by Italian law," said Paolo Gianola, Technical Leader
of TILAB's Antenna Propagation Department.
GUARDIAN
supplies engineers with a virtual representation of the urban
environment comprising terrain and building-block objects
for buildings, and shows electromagnetic field values with
advanced visualization techniques such as contours, isolines,
isosurfaces, and many more. Sophisticated reporting capabilities
allow engineers to produce required certification documentation.
AVS/Express
is a comprehensive software development platform for creating
advanced visualization applications for both research and
business, and is one of the world's most widely used data
visualization development tools.
